Healthier for Longer

Living longer is one thing. Staying healthier, stronger, and independent for more of those years is what healthspan is really about.

My First 72-Hour Fast Was in 1986

My first 72-hour fasting experience had nothing to do with health, weight loss, or longevity. It happened in 1986 while I was a U.S. Army paratrooper sergeant attending the three-week Recondo Course at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

More than 30 years later, fasting became part of my life for a completely different reason. That experience eventually led me to study intermittent fasting, metabolic health, nutrition, and the science behind what happens when we stop eating for a period of time.

This introductory Healthspan video combines my personal story with a careful look at what science actually tells us about fasting—and where the evidence is still developing.

What We’ll Explore

Practical health topics explained with context, caution, and respect for the evidence.

Intermittent Fasting

What time-restricted eating is, how it differs from prolonged fasting, and what human research currently shows.

Metabolic Health

How the body shifts from recently consumed energy toward stored fuel, including fat utilization and ketone production.

Autophagy

What cellular recycling means, what research suggests, and why there is no scientifically proven universal “magic hour.”

Healthy Aging

The broader goal: not simply adding more years to life, but helping preserve health, strength, function, and independence.

Evidence Over Hype

The goal of the Healthspan Series is not to promote miracle cures, extreme protocols, or one-size-fits-all answers. We will look at personal experience, emerging research, established science, and the important difference between them.

Coming in the Healthspan Series

Future videos will explore topics such as intermittent fasting, longer fasting periods, autophagy, metabolic health, nutrition, muscle preservation, healthy aging, and other practical strategies that may help support a longer and healthier life.

No hype. No miracle claims. Just education, evidence, and a better understanding of how our choices can affect the years ahead.
